Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they indicate for your site?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed when a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized people can observe its content. This option could be used for the primary folder of a particular website or exclusively for a particular subfolder based upon your preferences. For example, if you are building a new site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being 100% ready, you may want to restrict the access to it completely, while if you need only some people to be able to access particular files, you could password-protect only a certain folder, while the rest of the Internet site may be seen by everyone. Regardless, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear if the login details the visitor types in are not accurate. Even a direct link to a file shall not work so long as any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take just several mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites within a
hosting account with our company. You'll not need to do anything challenging - you'll have to pick a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it has to be protected, and then to type in the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login credentials, there shall not be a problem to set up a variety of different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this feature is activated. If you want to deactivate the protection function for any folder, you can disable it from the same exact section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a
semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to secure any content which you have uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's part of, so you shall not have to enter any code at any time. You'll only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains which you have in the website hosting account and to choose which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You can then enter the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be ready. The protection shall be activated straightaway, so anybody who attempts to access the freshly protected folder will have to enter the right login details. In case a number of people should be able to open the exact same content, you could set up a separate username for each.
